Join us Friday, April 29, 6pm for a neighborhood party at Sabine Park!
Bring a picnic dinner for yourselves, and something to share with the group. There is open space for volleyball, horseshoes, etc, if you want to bring a game.
Come meet your neighbors and celebrate spring!

Butterfly Garden
Two very nice people have offered donations to Sabine Park of butterfly bushes, milkweed plants, and other perennial flowers for attracting butterflies. Yesterday I met at the park with representitives of the Borough office and the Property Committee and cleared (in principle) the creation of a small butterfly garden. Sometime in the next week or so I and others will be doing the digging and transporting. If you would like to help us please get in touch!
Here is where we are going to put them:
We talked about some other things too, which I hope to have updates on soon.

More weeding needed
Hi everyone,
Thanks to those of you who continue to come to the park to pull a few more weeds out of the sand in the Tot Lot.
For those who have not tried it yet: It is slow-going but very satisfying! Once you pull a weed out of that sand, it is not going to come back for quite a while. Once cleared of weeds I believe it will be much easier to maintain and keep clean. So when you clear an area it's going to stay clear.
(Remember, you need to dig underneath the weed before pulling it up gently, so as to make sure to extract all the roots. See post further down.)

Supplemental work you can do!
Hi everyone,
Despite the success of last week's work event, there are a few things that still need to be done. There is still a good amount of crabgrass growing in the Tot-Lot that needs pulling up. (Incidentally, you can now see the very real difference it makes now that the crabgrass is gone from the other sanded areas.)
If you have some free time you can pull up crabgrass too! I recommend you follow this method. Bring along a brown paper bag and a shovel like this:
Dig under the grass patch that you're about to pull, in order to sever the roots, and lift up the patch a bit with the shovel:

Pull up the patch carefully.

Shake out as much sand as you can, and put the clump into the bag.
Bags can be collected on brush & leaf pickup day.
